People have a misconception that a hypnotherapist has a hidden magical talent to control their minds. Sorry to spoil your illusions but nobody can control your mind unless you let them (the volunteers in stage hypnosis are only hypnotisable because they wish to be).

The mind is a powerful tool and a gift given by nature to human being but research is proving the point that philosophers made centuries back that we use less than 10% of our brain/mind. Hypnotherapy can actually help you to get more in touch with other 90% of your mind. This is where you may have repressed memories of traumatic occasions but you may also have hidden resources that you do not use unless something stimulates you to it. For example as young children we all had the single minded tenacity to learn to stand up and walk and even to speak a whole language, to translate our thoughts and feelings into words so that others could understand them. This is a phenomenal accomplishment but. of course, children of that age don't recognise obstacles they just see what they want and go for it regardless of the obstacles or dangers involved.
